What’s cellophane:
Cellophane, also called cellulose film, is a thin film of regenerated cellulose, such as wood pulp and cotton pulp. It’s usually clear transparent and employed primarily as an eco-friendly packaging material. The advantages of cellulose film as a food packing material are obvious.
What is cellophane made of
As the cellulose is the basis of the Cellophone, it is a polymeric cellulose film. The film is made from renewable wood pulp harvested from managed plantations. The raw material of choice is called dissolving pulp, which is white like cotton and contains 92–98% cellulose.
Is cellulose film biodegradable?
Some people may ask: Is cellophane plastic? Is Cellophane biodegradable? We all know that cellophane is a cellulose film. So, the Cellophane is actually “paper”. But the outlook of the Cellophone is more like “plastic”. Actually, it is natural plastic. It functions as PAPER instead. So, it is biodegradable & compostable.
Cellulose film can be self-composite, but with different plastic film or tin foil and other materials multi-layer composite, composite fastness is large.
